The construction Carpenter performs tasks involving physical labor at heavy construction projects.  The position may operate a variety of hand, power tools and may clean, prepare sites. Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, wallboard and steel. Build rough wooden structures, such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel, bridge, and temporary frame shelters, according to sketches, blueprints, or oral instructions. The position may assist other craft workers.

Essential Functions:
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in mining/heavy construction projects
  • Construct, erect, and install wood, plywood, wallboard and steel structures
  • Operate basic hand tools such as using carpenter's hand tools and power tools as required in a safe and efficient way.
  • Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws
  • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
  • Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge
  • Measure materials or distances, using square, measuring tape, or rule to lay out work
  • Anchor and brace forms and other structures in place, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges, and timbers.
  • Use hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Maintains a clean job site: picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Help identify hazardous conditions on the job site.
  • Report any damage immediately to supervisor 
  • Perform other related duties as required

Education and/or Experience:
  • A valid driver license
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Five or more years’ experience as a Carpenter on remote construction projects.
  • Forklift & Rigging Card
  • Scaffolding Card
  • Lead abatement Card
  • Experience with Concrete Form & Pouring
  • MSHA certification
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • knowledge of safe operations of basic hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction in mining/heavy construction projects
  • Knowledge of wood, plywood, wallboard and steel structures.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, maintenance and follow related procedures
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor
  • Ability to communicate information in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member successfully
  • Ability to ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
