Summary:

The Concrete Batch Plant Operator position is responsible for the safe operation of computerized batching equipment to heat, weigh and mix aggregate, cement and water to produce concrete that conforms to order specifications and to help with the set up and take down of the portable concrete plants, help coordinate the daily plant activities. The position may assist other craft workers.

Essential Functions:
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in mining/heavy construction projects.
  • Maintain and perform general maintenance of batching and related equipment
  • Ensure proper compliance to specifications of concrete required.
  • Operate all machinery involved in the batching process.
  • Set up plant for which ever type of concrete that needs batched.
  • Ensure all plant calibrations and certifications are completed as required.
  • Ensure that proper materials are in stock for mixes
  • Ensure that proper material is being mixed for the type of concrete being produced
  • Inspect plant for worn and broken parts
  • Assist in major mechanical work or any other type of work being performed.
  • Keep proper records of maintenance, daily batch tickets, mix design notes, etc
  • Dispose of garbage according to set policies and procedures of the site
  • Use hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Help identify hazardous conditions on the job site.
  • Report any damage immediately to supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and preferably able to perform other tasks satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Batch plant operator on remote construction sites
Preferred:
  • MSHA certification
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Must have knowledge of concrete properties
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Must have general mechanical skills
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and to apply concepts to practical situations
  • Ability to read, understand and implement project plans and documents
  • Ability to communicate information in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member successfully
  • Ability to ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
