Summary:
Supervises and coordinates activities of crew aboard towing vessel by performing the following duties:
 
Essential Functions:
  • Adhere to the QSEMS (Quality, Safety, and Environmental Management System) including the Quality Assurance Manual (QAM) and the Operating Procedures Manual (OPM).
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of crew aboard towing vessel.
  • Examine gear and life-saving equipment.
  • Order crew to repair or replace defective gear and equipment.
  • Stand watch during specified periods and determine geographical position of vessel upon request of vessel Chief Mate or Master.
  • Direct activities of workers engaged in vessel operations.


Other Tasks:
  • Performing other related duties, as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Directs activates of workers engaged in vessel operations.     
  • Assumes command of vessel in an event the captain becomes incapacitated.
  • Supervise and coordinate actives of crew aboard towing vessel.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum:
  • Merchant Mariner Credential
    • 200 Ton Mate of Towing NC
  • TWIC
  • Valid Driver License
 
Preferred:
  • Vessel Security Officer (VSO) Certificate
  • First Aid/CPR
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for transportation of goods.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Skill in controlling operations of equipment and systems on the vessel.
  • Skill in problem solving and reacting quickly with rapidly changing situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 
  • Ability to speak English over radio and over phone.
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
