Summary:
Responsible for stringing-up blocks/crown sheaves with the drill line on drilling rigs during rig moves.
Responsible for operating a string-up tool truck, hydraulic winches, soldering, working at heights, operating a man-lift, and managing riggers to ensure that the job is done properly.
Responsible for using tools and equipment in a safe and correct way and maintaining, cleaning, and organizing them.
Responsible for gaining repeat business and developing outside sales.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
  • Solder, weld or perform other hot work to fuse wire rope.
  • Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallow frames, and other equipment.
  • Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
  • Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
  • Select gear such as cables, pulleys, shackles, spreader bars and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
  • Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
  • Help identify hazardous conditions on the job site.
  • Provides leadership and ensures safety training and practices.
  • Manages and delegates duties to riggers that are assisting with the string-up.
 
Other Tasks:
  • Assist in loading and unloading equipment from or to delivery truck.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • Assist driver/operator as requested.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
 
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and preferably able to perform other tasks satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 
 
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum:
  • Must have a valid Driver License.
  • Must have at least 1 year of string-up experience.
 
Preferred: 
  • OSHA 10hr. training.
  • Rigger certification.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge in oilfield related tools and equipment.
  • Ability to solve complex and technical mechanical problems – mainly in how to get a job done with the equipment available in the most efficient and safe way possible.
  • Knowledge of and ability maintain equipment and follow related procedures.
  • Ability to assess and troubleshoot equipment failure.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply first aid.
  • Ability to see and record written data and information.
  • Ability to communicate information in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
